About
PRISM Promoting Research In Self-management of Musculoskeletal conditions
PRISM is a University of Leeds, School of Healthcare research group focusing on self-management of common musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions such as osteoarthritis, osteoporosis and chronic pain.
Our aims are:
-
to support local people in self-management of musculoskeletal conditions
-
improve local musculoskeletal services for older people
-
engage our local communities in health research
This site will tell you about what we do, why we do it and how you can become involved in our research projects. You can also find useful resources, hints and tips on how to help manage MSK conditions.
What we do: All our projects are about improving services and support for people with musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions such as osteoarthritis, osteoporosis and chronic pain. You can learn about these conditions on our 'find out more' pages and view our past, current and upcoming research projects here.
Why we do it: Current treatment options for musculoskeletal conditions are limited, but many people have been able to manage their pain and improve their symptoms through learning about self-management. We want to help more people learn how to self-manage and support them to make sustainable life changes.
Who we are: We are a highly experienced team of applied health researchers and clinicians with an interest in improving local services and support for people with common musculoskeletal conditions such as osteoarthritis. We have strong links with Versus Arthritis and the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR).
Our study teams are made up of researchers, academics and healthcare professionals from:
- School of Healthcare
- Leeds Institute of Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Medicine (LIRMM)
- NIHR Leeds Biomedical Research Centre.
as well as patients, service users and members of the public. We all play a vital part in making research happen.
How YOU can get involved: Find out more here about becoming part of our research. You might be a member of the public wanting to learn how to better self-manage your own condition or a professional or interested person wanting to help others.
If you have experience of a musculoskeletal condition, we'd love to hear from you!
